Our handwriting and early literacy programs work together to help students build the skills they need to become successful readers and writers. When used in tandem, combining Learning Without Tears programs allows students to move from mastering the mechanics of handwriting to becoming proficient readers and writers.

To guide you, we’ve developed grade-level crosswalks that show how to successfully integrate Handwriting Without Tears® with A−Z for Mat Man® and Me or Phonics, Reading, and Me™. In these crosswalks, you’ll see exactly which lessons can be taught together throughout Grades K−3 to maximize your instructional time and reinforce the right skills at the right time.

Because not all early readers progress at the same speed, we’ve also developed crosswalks to help you effectively integrate A−Z for Mat Man and Me with Phonics, Reading, and Me at the kindergarten level. Both programs are built on The Science of Reading, using the same systematic, explicit approach and instructional design, making it easier for students to move between programs as they progress.
