It’s that wonderful time of the year again! Students are back, and teachers are facing the unique learning dynamics that come with each new school year.

Right now—as new classes begin—is the most crucial time to begin the assessment process. Not only will it help gauge where each student is starting from, but it serves as the foundation for which teachers can measure their overall academic growth by the end of the year.

Teachers’ time is stretched thin as it is. But quality assessments can inform your instruction. Students that are inadequately assessed are more likely to face cascading performance issues.

Learning Without Tears offers effective ways to assess students confidently, regularly, and quickly. Here are some of the tools we offer that you can start using to assess your students today.

Pre-K — Assessments to Guide Instruction

Using our new platform, assessments have never been easier to manage. Designed for Pre-K classrooms, the Assessments to Guide Instruction is included with the Pre-K Interactive Teaching Tool, prepares students for kindergarten. Through formative and summative assessments, you will be able to monitor performance, identify areas that need help, and remediate those skills with guided suggestions.

K–3 — Phonics, Reading, and Me™

In this new program, students get regular assessment checkpoints as they read new material, ensuring the resources meet learners where they are. Instructional supports are deployed where students need help the most, along with activities that stretch to meet their growing reading capabilities.

Phonics, Reading, and Me was designed to multiply the effectiveness of teachers, saving them time while keeping all students on track for reading success. Student performance of new skills is gauged through digital screener activities that use voice-enabled oral reading. Based on student performance, the just-right supports ensuring the class continues along the same path to reading fluency.

K–5 — The Screener of Handwriting Proficiency

The Screener of Handwriting Proficiency is a free, easy-to-use tool for K–5 that can truly make a difference in your students’ handwriting journeys. Handwriting is a key skill that lasts a lifetime. If your student struggles with certain writing mechanics, it can lead to more complex issues down the road if not remediated. In just 10-15 minutes, the Screener can identify and address these areas of struggle.
